Project background
Today we’re excited to share the after photos of the most ADORABLE kids bedroom. When we found out that one of our favorite interior designers, Emily Henderson, was renovating the bedroom shared by her two kiddos, we jumped at the chance to help with this fun and personal project.

The Consultation
One of Emily’s main requirements was that she didn’t want to add more fabric to the room. Not surprising considering the layered bedding and fun canopy she had custom made for over the bed. The window wall is really close to the canopy so introducing another fabric would have overwhelmed the space. That meant fabric roman shades and custom drapery were out, and blinds didn’t block enough light (and let’s be honest, they also aren’t special enough for the design!). Which brings us to the beauty of woven wood shades.
The perfect window treatments for a kids’ room
Provenance® Woven Wood Shades are handcrafted using natural materials and provide a warm, organic look at the window. With the help of Laurel, her local Decorview designer, Emily was able to find a woven textile with fibers that perfectly complement the tone of the wicker headboards.
Another important requirement for this project was room-darkening. Emily’s kids are super sensitive to light when they sleep, so whatever window treatment she chose had to have a blackout option. Woven shades are inherently see-through, so to combat light leaks, a special liner was added.
How the shade is mounted also plays a big role in its ability to block light. Rather than order individual shades for each window, her Decorview designer suggested one large shade mounted above the windows. This configuration would eliminate light leaks between shades and make the room appear taller. A matching valance adds the perfect finishing touch to the top.
